Benzoin Tincture


Pronunciation: BEN-zoyn
Generic Name: Benzoin
Brand Name: Generic only. No brands available.


Benzoin Tincture is used for:

Protecting the skin from irritation. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.


Benzoin Tincture is a skin protectant. It works by forming a barrier over the affected area.


Do NOT use Benzoin Tincture if:


  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Benzoin Tincture

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.



Before using Benzoin Tincture:


Some medical conditions may interact with Benzoin Tincture. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:


  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Benzoin Tincture. However, no specific interactions with Benzoin Tincture are known at this time.

How to use Benzoin Tincture:


Use Benzoin Tincture as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.


  • Dry the affected area. Saturate a cotton applicator with Benzoin Tincture, then apply it to the affected area as directed. Do not dilute the medicine.

  • If you miss a dose of Benzoin Tincture, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as directed by your doctor or on the package label.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Benzoin Tincture.



Important safety information:


  • Avoid getting Benzoin Tincture in your eyes or nose.

  • Do NOT exceed the recommended dose or use Benzoin Tincture for more than 7 days without checking with your doctor.

  • If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days, or if they get worse, contact your doctor or dentist.

  • Benzoin Tincture may be harmful if swallowed. Do not swallow Benzoin Tincture. If you accidentally swallow Benzoin Tincture seek medical attention or contact a poison control center immediately.

  • Benzoin Tincture is flammable. Keep it away from sparks, heat, and flames.

  • Supervise CHILDREN younger than 12 years of age when they use Benzoin Tincture.

  • Benzoin Tincture is not recommended for use in CHILDREN younger than 6 months of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.


Possible side effects of Benzoin Tincture:


All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with this product. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:



Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); fever; persistent or worsening irritation, pain, or redness.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:


Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center, or emergency room immediately. Benzoin Tincture may be harmful if swallowed.


Proper storage of Benzoin Tincture:

Store Benzoin Tincture at room temperature. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Benzoin Tincture out of the reach of children and away from pets.
